After graduating from Kristiania University with a First Class Honours in Computer Science, Erling joined the Lillehammer Winter Olympic Games in 1990 as a Project Controller and DBA, as well as the Norwegian Home Guard, before moving to Atea Norway as a Department Head in their Microsoft Consultancy Department. During this time, Erling also worked as an IT consultant for Telenor Marlink, building their BSS/OSS solutions throughout the late 90s. He was also promoted to a Warrant Officer for the Home Guard in 1998. In 2002, Erling began working as a Project Manager on the Rural Broadband Initiative in Norway, deploying fibre and digital subscribers’ land services throughout the Norwegian network of telephone exchanges as part of a local government scheme to cover rural areas with broadband. Following this, Erling moved to Eidsiva, where he occupied numerous roles throughout his 19-year tenure. These initially involved responsibility for B2B and wholesale markets, before becoming a Senior Advisor to Senior Management and the CEO in 2010. This role involved acquiring new fibre infrastructure through IRU, swop, and cooperative construction projects. He also advised Senior Management on strategy, M&A, asset sales and divestment. Between 2011 and 2015, Erling served two terms on the Eidsiva Broadband executive board as an employee representative, continuing his work providing successful and viable business strategies for the fibre roll-out. During this time, Erling also joined the Easyfibre board as a Managing Partner for Eidsiva in 2013, and later began as a business developer in 2021 specialising in due diligence relating to the purchase and divestment of physical infrastructure assets, before leaving Eidsiva in early 2024. Between 2012 and 2013, Erling took multiple leaves from Eidsiva to serve in NATO as a Technical Liaison Officer. His responsibilities in this position included resolving operational and functional security issues on the Norwegian Army network to the ISAF Secret Telecommunications network. Alongside this work, Erling also occupied the Board of Directors for the Norwegian Fibre Association from 2017 to 2019 on a pro-bono basis, as well as beginning a part-time position as International Sales Director for Nordavind DC Sites in 2018. In this role, Erling is responsible for promoting data centre sites in Norway, as well as advising on international sales and networking. From 2018 until the present, Erling has been developing the Celtic Norse submarine fibre-optic cable system, planning to go from Killala Bay, County Mayo, Ireland, to Trondheim, Norway. This cable system is a joint venture between three Norwegian Energy Companies, also including Eidsiva and Aqua Comms Ltd., Ireland. Erling is now working at team lead for Cambridge Management Consulting on the Falkland Islands Government telecommunication transisiton project. Under the contract of its previous provider of telecommunications services, the digital network of the Falkland Islands was operating on legacy copper infrastructure, which was no longer meeting the needs and potential of its businesses and public services. As such, the Falkland Islands Government was looking to leverage the end of this licence as a chance to bring its digital infrastructure up to date, and support its residents to maximise the strengths and opportunities of heightened connectivity. To support this, the Falkland Islands Government required an independent assessment of its previous digital environment in order to produce a set of recommendations for improvement which could be easily implemented across the Islands to ensure continuity of services. https://www.linkedin.com/in/erlinga/
