Dr. Romel Hidayat is a Senior Engineer at PT PLN (Persero) and Assistant Professor at Institut Teknologi PLN, specializing in renewable energy, solar photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), low-carbon energy technologies, and advanced materials for energy applications. He earned his Ph.D. in Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials Engineering from Sejong University, South Korea, with research experience spanning solar cells, battery devices, semiconductor processes, and emerging energy technologies. Romel has led and supported multidisciplinary engineering, technology development, knowledge management, training, and industry–academia collaboration initiatives across Indonesia and South Korea. As a Champion of BESS Technology Mastery at PT PLN, he actively contributes to strengthening technology adoption, project implementation, and ecosystem development for Indonesia’s energy transition. He has served as speaker, guest lecturer, and keynote speaker in numerous forums on BESS, renewable energy, battery ecosystems, green hydrogen, and sustainable technology, and has authored peer-reviewed publications and patents in advanced materials, battery technologies, and semiconductor-related processes. His professional mission is to advance solar and storage solutions that support grid reliability, energy resilience, national technology mastery, and the Net Zero Emission 2060 agenda.
