Muchtazar is an award-winning sustainability professional with over a decade of experience leading ESG integration and community initiatives across the industrial, consumer goods, and resource sectors in Indonesia.

He currently serves as Head of Sustainability at Nickel Industries Limited, one of the world’s largest nickel producers, and sits on the Board of Management of the Nickel Industries Foundation, the company’s dedicated vehicle for social impact and community development. With years of experience in the private sector, Muchtazar has led the implementation of ESG frameworks, sustainability disclosure, and stakeholder engagement across complex operations in Indonesia. His work bridges corporate responsibility, public reporting, and on-the-ground impact—delivering value for investors, customers, and local people alike.

In recognition of his contributions, Muchtazar was named an SDG Pioneer by the United Nations Global Compact in 2019, only the second Indonesian in history to receive this honour. He was later recognised as an ESG Champion by the Natural Resources Forum (2022) and included in the Under 40 Sustainability Stars at the 2023 ESG World Summit & GRIT Awards. He has also represented Indonesia at various international forums, including the UN General Assembly, UN Climate Conference (COP), the ASEAN–Australia Special Summit, and One Young World, where he consistently champions the role of emerging economies in global governance and responsible production.

Muchtazar’s academic foundation—a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and a Master of Environmental Science from the University of Indonesia—underpins his ability to bridge technical rigour with strategic vision. This background has empowered him to operate at the intersection of science, policy, and business, enabling practical ESG integration across sectors.

Today, he continues to lead and influence ESG thinking not just as a compliance function, but as a strategic lever for building a more just, sustainable, and globally competitive future.
