Dr. Ahmed Oteafy is the founding director of the Joint Smart Grids and Electric Vehicles Research & Development Center (JSEC) and an assistant professor of electrical engineering at Alfaisal University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Kuwait University, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from Boise State University, Idaho, USA, in 2011. His research interests are in the fields of renewable energy, cyberphysical power systems, and electric machines. This entails their design, modeling, parameter identification, and control; specifically, synchronous generators, induction motors, switched reluctance machines, battery-energy storage systems, photovoltaic systems, and DC microgrids. He is also currently developing R&D testbeds for DC microgrids, active battery pack balancing, and a Boeing-funded solar car.
