John Akira Fotos is Director of Sales and Business Development at HyperStrong, currently the Globally #3 & within China the #1 battery energy storage systems (BESS) integrative solutions provider, where he leads market development and client partnerships of BESS solutions across Japan, while supports broader initiatives across the Asia-Pacific.

With over a decade of experience in clean and renewable energy, John has contributed to the development, financing and commercialization of more than 300 MW of solar facility projects in Japan and supported multi-gigawatt solar & hydrogen pipelines across global markets including a clean energy asset portfolio structuring for one of the first IPOs of a clean energy infrastructure fund in Japan.

His work spans utility-scale solar, energy storage, and digital energy software platforms, with a focus on bridging technical solutions, policy frameworks and commercial transactions across international teams and interest holders.

Fluent in both English and Japanese, John specializes in cross-cultural communication, consensus formulation and market entry solutions, helping international energy companies navigate and adapt through Japan’s regulatory, commercial and socio-cultural landscape. His current work focuses on accelerating the deployment of energy storage to support grid resilience, renewable integration and next-generation energy systems supporting pathways to meeting global SDGs.
