John De Bruyn, Senior Policy Officer, Department of Climate Change, Energy, The Environment and Water

John de Bruyn is a sustainability professional with over 15 years’ experience in climate change adaptation, renewable energy, and urban sustainability. With qualifications in architecture and environmental engineering management, he combines technical knowledge with leadership, stakeholder engagement, and policy expertise. At the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment & Water, John leads projects advancing the state’s clean energy transition, including the NSW Consumer Energy Resources Installer Portal & implementation of the Emergency backstop Mechanism in NSW. He has managed major programs such as Rebate Swap for Solar, Solar Banks, and the Regional Community Energy Fund. John is passionate about supporting an orderly energy transition and embedding sustainability and climate resilience across communities and the built environment.
