Armandino Fombella holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oviedo (Outstanding Graduate Award - Valedictorian), a Dipl.-Ing. from the Technical University of Vienna, a Certificate of Research Aptitude in Electrical Engineering, and an MBA from EOI Business School. He was a full-time Associate Professor at the University of Oviedo (2000-2004) and later a part-time Associate Professor at Carlos III University of Madrid (2008-2012). He has been in different possitions with Renfe since 2004 and serving as the Director of the Haramain Project in Saudi Arabia since 2012 when the construction of the line began. He became member of the Board of Directors of the Project in 2014 and, in 2018, once the construction and integration phase was completed, he was appointed as Vice President of the Saudi company that operates the high speed line between the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, serving as the official "Duty Holder" before the Saudi authorities.
