Dr Monica Hanus-Smith is Materials Decarbonisation Innovation Lead at Laing O’Rourke, with over 15 years of experience spanning engineering, innovation, and strategic transformation. She leads the ecosystem partnering, piloting and uptake of emergent material solutions, accelerating their integration into construction delivery. Her work centres on translating new material technologies and products into practical, scalable outcomes. She builds and mobilises cross‑value‑chain partnerships to accelerate adoption and enable the transition from innovation to implementation. Monica has a strong track record of advancing initiatives to deployment, driving lasting impact and influencing systemic change. Monica holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical and Biomolecular) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering from the University of Sydney.
