Mr Deon James was previously the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Dagupan Electric Corporation, an Electricity Distribution Utility-based in the Philippines (2004-2020), and is still active in a consulting role and Director. He gained his Mechanical Engineering (Honours) degree at the University of Cape Town, South Africa in 1983, and MBA at the same university in 1990, being a scholarship holder of AECI. He started his work career with SA Nylon Spinners (SANS) as an engineer in training, and then joined Vynide Somerset West as Maintenance Manager, and then Engineering Manager. His professional experience in electricity utilities started as Engineering Manager of South Africa's electricity generation peaking plants (hydro, pump storage and gas turbines) of Eskom (South Africa's National Utility), and before joining Dagupan Electric Corporation in the Philippines in 2004, was a Regional Engineering Manager of Eskom Distribution in South Africa. He has presented papers on renewable energy options, and most recently on solar energy, at conferences in South Africa and the Philippines, and is actively pursuing these renewable options at an Electricity Distribution level.
