Scott Shireman is the Director of the University of Michigan Center for Innovation, a world-class research, education and entrepreneurship center in Detroit that advances innovation and talent-focused community development to propel city, regional and statewide job creation and economic growth.

A first generation college student, Scott saw first-hand the transformative power of education and has dedicated his career to expanding access and excellence in higher education. Prior to joining the University of Michigan he served in leadership roles at Northwestern University and UC Berkeley and as Global Head of Coursera for Campus at Coursera, a leading edtech company. In these roles he has been a thought leader and frequent presenter around the world on the future of higher education and how universities can better serve learners and align their curriculum to the jobs and skills of the future.
