Jeff Stefan is a technology-focused attorney with globally recognized legal authority in data privacy and advanced mobility. He leads the Mobility Practice Team at Varnum LLP, helping clients navigate the evolving legal and public policy landscape for new and emerging mobility technologies.
 
In his mobility practice, Jeff provides counsel on a variety of laws and regulations including product liability, privacy, data and licensing agreements, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) compliance, transportation services, customer user experience and vehicle connectivity. His clients include autonomous and electric vehicle companies, trade associations, and other leading automotive tech providers.
 
Prior to joining Varnum, Jeff served as the Privacy Associate General Counsel for a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, where he led a wide range of privacy-related matters in connection with the company’s development and production of the world’s first fully electric truck. Additionally, Jeff previously served as autonomous vehicle counsel for a major global automaker and supported the automaker’s emerging technology portfolio, focusing on data privacy and cybersecurity on a worldwide basis.
 
Jeff is credentialed as an IAPP certified information privacy professional. In addition to his mobility practice, he regularly assists some of the world’s leading technology companies with regulatory and data privacy issues.
