Douglas Smith is a professional urban planner and passionate about about the intersection of land use, transportation, and sustainability. He serves as Director, Location & Land Use for the U.S. Green Building Council where he helps to innovate and maintain the organization's rating system products (e.g., LEED, SITES) on topics like land use, transportation, water efficiency, and sustainable site design. For the last 10 years, Douglas worked in municipal government. Most recently, he served as Chief Planner for the City of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and oversaw comprehensive planning, land development, historic preservation, zoning, and floodplain administration. He was also the primary author for Lancaster's comprehensive plan and climate action plan.
