Becca Gallas, Director, Division of Aviation, North Carolina Department of Transportation

Becca Gallas, P.E., serves as director of the North Carolina Department of Transportation Division of Aviation, leading initiatives that promote a safe and robust air transportation system and vibrant economy. Under her direction, the Division annually manages more than 350 state and federally funded airport development projects valued at more than $680 million for infrastructure improvement projects at North Carolina’s 72 public airports, operates a nationally acclaimed advanced air mobility/unmanned aircraft systems program and provides planning and engineering assistance for airports, professional development for airport personnel, and air transportation services for state agencies. Gallas works with North Carolina’s aviation and economic development community to promote public-private initiatives and investments that create jobs and economic opportunity. Among them is Advance Mobility NC, an initiative leveraging innovations of NCDOT’s aviation, integrated mobility and rail divisions to create a multimodal transportation system that improves the mobility of people and freight through autonomous vehicles, advanced air mobility, connected streets and freight transfer hubs. She also manages a performance-based grant program funding time-sensitive capital improvement projects at general aviation airports that create jobs, which has generated $224 million in additional investment and more than 1,000 jobs since inception. Among those investments is an airport parking apron built to support North Carolina’s first multimodal electric charging station at a public airport – a first step toward electrifying aviation in the state.  Gallas holds a B.S. degree in civil engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina.
