Julie Davies is a Consultant Clinical Scientist with extensive experience in clinical biochemistry, pathology transformation and laboratory medicine across both the NHS and independent healthcare sectors. She holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Manchester and trained as a Clinical Biochemist within the NHS, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists in 2003. Julie spent the majority of her career within the NHS, including more than 10 years at Wye Valley NHS Trust, where she ultimately served as Clinical Director. During this time, she held a range of clinical, operational and strategic leadership responsibilities and was involved in the introduction of pathology order communications, digital pathology and new analytical technologies, alongside wider service transformation and development. She subsequently joined SYNLAB UK and Ireland, where she developed a particular interest in patient-centred and decentralised blood sampling. She has played a leading role in the development and accreditation of capillary blood testing, doubling the organisation’s accredited scope in this area. She has also led the validation and implementation of two new analytical platforms. Julie is now also a UKAS assessor, bringing her extensive experience in laboratory quality, accreditation and service development to the assessment of clinical laboratories against relevant quality and competence standards. Julie has a particular interest in how advances in blood collection, laboratory technology and digital systems can be used to improve access to testing, support more patient-centred models of care and transform the delivery of laboratory services. Her career combines clinical expertise with experience in strategic leadership, service development, technology implementation and laboratory quality and accreditation.
