Alex Tourski, Founder, Post-Platforms Foundation

Alex is a serial entrepreneur with a background in Computer Science and an MBA. Originally from Ukraine and now based in the Netherlands, his career began in 1988 with the Soviet Mars program “Phobos”. Since then, he has led major ventures across a wide range of industries, including business consulting, internet security and cryptography (notably developing early VPNs in collaboration with Sun Microsystems), car navigation, high-speed rail, cultural heritage, agriculture, and road safety. In 2020, Alex introduced the Web 3.0 Data Space concept to challenge platform monopolies and eliminate data silos by decoupling data from platforms. This vision culminated in the launch of the MetaState Foundation in 2025, supported by private sponsors. The Foundation aims to release a working prototype by September, enabling large communities in Amsterdam and beyond to adopt next-generation trust systems – including eID, eVoting, eCharter, and eReputation – to support self-governance at scale. By the end of the year, this prototype is set to expand into the Dutch agricultural sector (in collaboration with WUR and BO Akkerbouw) and the European Data Space for cultural heritage. Alex is also actively engaged in the national conversation on Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) in the Netherlands.
