Gastón Schulmeister, Director - Department against Transnational Organized Crime (DTOC), Organization of American States (OAS)

With over 20 years of professional experience in the defense, justice, and security sectors across the Americas, Gastón Schulmeister holds the position of Director of the Department against Transnational Organized Crime (DTOC) at the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington DC. In his role as a government official, he has had the opportunity to manage a police force in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, as well as serve as the National Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Security of the Argentine Republic. Throughout his career with international organizations, he has been involved in technical assistance and investment projects in security. He has worked as a consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Argentina and Paraguay, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Paraguay, and the International Observatory for Juvenile Justice (IOJJ) in Mexico. Regarding his academic background, he earned his bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Buenos Aires in 2001, and in 2005, he obtained a Master's degree in International Studies from the Torcuato Di Tella University. To strengthen his knowledge in security matters, he has been a fellow at the William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies at the National Defense University in Washington DC, a Chevening Fellow of the United Kingdom's Foreign and Commonwealth Office at the University of Bradford, and a Fulbright Fellow of the U.S. Department of State at the University of Delaware. In May 2017, he had the honor of receiving the title "Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy," awarded by the President of the Italian Republic, in recognition of his work in international cooperation against organized crime during his tenure in the government of the Argentine Republic.
