Professor John Nelson, PhD, holds the Chair in Public Transport, Institute of Transport and LogisticsStudies (ITLS), University of Sydney when he directs the teaching, training and research activities in public transport. John is particularly interested in the application and evaluation of new technologies to improve transport systems as well as the policy frameworks and regulatory regimes necessary to achieve sustainable mobility and his research is funded by the iMOVE CRC, the Australian Research Council and industry. John is an Editorial Board and committee member of several leading journals and conferences. He is co-author (with David Hensher et al) of Understanding Mobility as a Service (MaaS). Past, Present and Future (Elsevier, 2020), co-editor (with Corinne Mulley) of Urban Form and Accessibility: Social, Economic, and Environment Impacts (Elsevier, 2020), co-editor (with Corinne Mulley and Stephen Ison) of The Routledge Handbook of Public Transport (Routledge, 2021) and co-author of Transportation in a Net Zero World: Transitioning Towards Low Carbon Public Transport (Springer, 2022). Most recently he has edited the Elgar Encyclopedia of Transport and Society (with Corinne Mulley and Steve Ison, to be published in October 2025).
