Mr. Hein Oomen is Head of Asia-Pacific at ENGIE Solar. ENGIE (formally known as GDF SUEZ) is the world’s largest independent power producer with 103 GW of installed capacity. The Group employs 160,000 employees across 70 countries. As part of its ambition to become the global leader in the energy transition, ENGIE acquired solar developer Solairedirect in 2015 (now ENGIE Solar). ENGIE Solar has become the Group’s global centre of excellence for the development and construction of utility scale PV and has booked recent successes in highly competitive markets such as Brazil, Mexico, the US, France and India with more than 4 GW in operation, under construction or in backlog.
Mr. Oomen has 16 years of experience in the energy industry, in roles including engineering, complex project management, business development and M&A. Over the past 1.5 years with ENGIE Solar, he drove business origination initiatives in Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Mongolia, Australia and Japan, resulting in an active development pipeline in excess of 1 GW of utility-scale solar PV.
Prior to ENGIE, Mr. Oomen worked on Asian business development and platform acquisitions at SunEdison and TerraForm Global. Before that he led the development of the first LNG import terminal for one of the top tier power producers in the Philippines. He started his career as a hydrodynamic engineer with the Monaco-based Oil & Gas contractor SBM Offshore. Mr. Oomen holds an Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.
