Andrew Beirne is a British diplomat with a background in economics, energy and business. As the Economic and Prosperity Counsellor in the British Embassy in Bangkok, Andrew oversees the UK government’s engagement with Thailand on economic issues; science and technology; climate and environment; and sustainable development.
Prior to his arrival in Bangkok in August 2018, Andrew worked in London as Head of Economic Multilateralism at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office; a role in which he oversaw the UK’s relationship with multilateral organisations and as well as elements of G7 and G20 negotiations.
Andrew’s previous roles include Head of Strategy for Economic Diplomacy in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Head of Nuclear Strategy, Communications and Engagement for the Department of Energy and Climate Change. Andrew has previously been posted to Russia and Taiwan.
Andrew studied Physics and Business at the University of Manchester, before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant while working in Deloitte. He is married with a wife with two daughters.
