Daniel McCabe is the First Assistant Secretary of the Medicare Benefits and Digital Health Division at the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing. Daniel is responsible for the complex and diverse Medicare program. This includes providing advice to government on changes to the Medicare Benefits Schedule to improve access and affordability, support health reforms, new clinical services, and patient access to health services. Daniel led the establishment of 1800MEDICARE, providing a nationally consistent entry point for urgent, non-emergency care. The service offers access to 24/7 health advice and after-hours GP services. Daniel has led significant input into Government’s Strengthening Medicare agenda with significant investment in primary care through Medicare and significant reform for Digital Health policy. Daniel has policy responsibility for national digital health policy to connect Australians and health care professionals with their health information across all parts of the health system. Daniel is the co-chair of the Digital Health Oversight Committee, with states and territories, and is also a board member of the Australian Digital Health Agency.
