Castle Surveys Ltd

Highways teams don't need more data. They need the right data, captured fast, and delivered in a format their engineers can actually use. That's where we come in. Castle Surveys is a multidisciplinary geospatial surveying company based in Ashby de la Zouch, working right across the highways and infrastructure sector from our offices in the Midlands, Manchester, London, Cheltenham and Scotland. Everything we do is delivered in house, with no subcontracting, so the survey crew who scan your carriageway are the same people quality checking the deliverable that lands on your desk. For Highways UK, we're bringing the tools that highways engineers, asset managers and consultants actually ask us for. Mobile mapping, using our fleet of Leica Pegasus TRK units, lets us capture kilometres of network in a single pass, at normal traffic speed, without the road closures and TM costs that traditional survey methods demand. Towable GPR takes that further, pulling subsurface utility and pavement construction data straight off the back of a vehicle, no excavation, no lane closures, just accurate depth and material data collected as we drive.

We also handle topographic extraction, PCI (Pavement Condition Index) and IRI (International Roughness Index) reporting, turning raw scan data into the condition metrics that actually drive maintenance and investment decisions. Swept path analysis is one we get asked about a lot, particularly from clients dealing with junction upgrades, roundabout redesigns or abnormal load routes; we model it directly from point cloud data, so you're working from as-built reality rather than assumptions. Then there's the practical, everyday problems: bridge height clearance surveys that keep HGVs (and insurance claims) off your bridges, and vegetation encroachment mapping that flags sightline and sign visibility issues before they become a safety concern. We're IHO Category A qualified for hydrographic work, ISO 9001 aligned across the business, and we've delivered mobile mapping and asset surveys for clients including Network Rail, most notably a five-discipline overnight survey at Paddington Station completed with ten surveyors and zero incidents. If you're heading to Highways UK this year, come and find us on stand [insert stand number]. We'd genuinely like to talk through what's slowing your network surveys down, whether that's programme, budget, or just not knowing what's possible with modern mobile mapping.
