Dr Williamson has an academic background in contaminant hydrogeology. He has approximately 20 years’ experience in the provision of environmental, health and safety, and social advisory, appraisal and consulting services, specifically working in the Eurasian region since 1991. He led the EHS consulting services team of URS in the Emerging Markets Countries until 2001, providing advice to foreign investors seeking to develop industry in such countries, and to governmental agencies in eastern Europe and central Asia seeking to privatise former state-owned industries. From 2001 – 2005 he led the Environmental Practice in Europe for Marsh, the risk and insurance adviser, and following this, from 2005 – 2010, he led, as a Partner, the Transaction Services team in Europe, Africa and the Middle East for Environmental Resources Management, the world’s leading pure EHS consulting firm. Since joining the EBRD in early 2010, Dr Williamson has carried out Project Appraisal in the manufacturing and extractives sector in regard to the Bank’s potential investments, as well as monitoring compliance of investees with loan agreement commitments to EHSS performance. He currently assists the Bank in active mining sector investments in Bulgaria, Turkey, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan; as well as Russia and Mongolia.
