Muhammad Umar Ilyas is Group Executive Vice President for Data Centre & Technology Operations at PTCL Group, overseeing national-scale IT infrastructure, data centre operations, and technology platforms supporting both PTCL and Ufone. His responsibilities include managing enterprise IT operations, data centre strategy, cloud environments, and the systems underpinning core telecom services such as billing, ERP, CRM, and enterprise applications.
With more than two decades of experience in IT infrastructure, information security, and technology operations, he has led large-scale programs including the design and migration of PTCL’s Tier-III compliant data centre facilities, establishment of 24/7 network and security operations centres (NOC/SOC), and the implementation of cloud computing environments and disaster recovery frameworks to strengthen business continuity.
In parallel to his role at PTCL Group, he has served as Chief Technology Officer at U Microfinance Bank, where he has led the bank’s core technology modernization, including the migration to a Temenos T24 core banking platform and the development of a full digital banking stack.
Umar holds advanced qualifications in information security and technology management, including certifications such as CISM and CISA, and has completed executive programs in CIO practices and leadership at the National University of Singapore.
