Jim Powell, President, TDG LLC, Dangerous Goods Training

Jim Powell is president of Transportation Development Group LLC (TDG) and DGTraining.com. Jim founded TDG in Los Angeles in 1992 after more 15 years in executive-level positions in the airline, trucking, and logistics industries throughout the U.S. He was hired by one of the founders of DHL to run their first cargo airline and created their first FAA-approved HazMat training program in the early 1980’s. As Director of Cargo for DHL, he worked with Dr. Larry Roberts, the former project director at DARPA, who invented the technology that later became the internet. Jim was part of a task force of DHL companies to work with Dr. Roberts to automate DHL in the 1980’s. Jim continued his dual role in operational management and logistics technology for the next ten years, and in 1992 he started the Transportation Development Group, a logistics and regulatory compliance consultancy.  He was a founding (adjunct) instructor with California State University Long Beach’s Global Logistics Specialist program and taught courses on the Role of Technology and Logistics for over ten years. Jim is an international author, speaker, and trainer on dangerous goods and logistics issues. He is chairman and head of a United Nations delegation in Geneva for the Dangerous Goods Trainers Association and a member of the UN informal working group on lithium battery transport. He also participates in FAA-sponsored meetings on logistics use of UAVs. His company has provided training to more than 75,000 students, both online at www.dgtraining.com and in person, and his company has consulted with some of the largest shippers and logistics providers in the world.
