PulManage, A Scalable Platform for Real-time, High-quality, Remote Spirometry
Pharma faces persistent challenges in rare disease respiratory clinical trials with spirometry endpoints, including data variability, patient recruitment, and operational inefficiencies. Although traditional, in-person spirometry is the gold standard, it is burdensome to patients and relies heavily on technician skill. Infrequent, in-person spirometry measurements result in a 30% intra-individual variability, increasing trial time, cost, and data requirements. Our compliant, scalable platform delivers real-time, high-quality, remote spirometry, guided by credentialed respiratory therapists, reducing variability by up to 40% and ensuring adherence to global quality (ATS/ERS) standards. The platform facilitates more frequent, standardized assessments and additional collection of critical patient data for accurate disease characterization. Real-time analytics increase data fidelity while shared dashboards enable sponsor oversight and streamline operations. In a COPD detection study with 60+ rural, tobacco-exposed adults in South Carolina, our unique processes and integrated analytics solved patient enrollment challenges, enhanced patient communication and health literacy, and produced high-quality, high-specificity data. Two academic medical centers and a rare disease community are using our platform across the spectrum of lung diseases for clinical trials and the collection of real-world evidence. Future enhancements include support of multilingual international trials, integration of wearable data, and analytics to predict and detect exacerbations.
