Tim Miles, Head of AMR in Global Health R&D Medicines, GSK

Tim Miles is the head AMR and NTDs research at GSKĀ“s Global Health Unit in Spain. Tim obtained a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Oxford, UK and joined GSK as a medicinal chemist in 2003. Tim spent the first 8 years working on antibacterials, leading to the discovery of Gepotidacin in the UK. Then moved to Spain working on NTDs, delivering new pre-clinical candidates for visceral leishmaniasis and building a world leading portfolio for Chagas disease in collaboration with Drug Discovery Unit in Dundee University funded by Wellcome. More recently, he has built an early stage AMR portfolio based on innovation. Awardee of the prestigious Biochemical Society Industry & academic collaboration award (2023), GSK IPTc Award (2020), GSK Transformational Medicine Award (2019) and recipient of three GSK scientific excellence awards (2012, 2010 and 2007). Selected as GSK Fellow in 2016 (wave 1), as proven expert at technical disciplines and acting as aspirational beacon to motivate and attract technical talent. Appointed adjunct professor at Dundee University, MRC Impact Acceleration Award panellist and IMI Combine / GNAnow industry lead.
