Jessica Kubicek-Sutherland, PhD, is a Staff Scientist and Team Leader for CBRN Medical Countermeasures at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Her research focuses on advancing vaccines and therapeutics against emerging and high-consequence biological threats. She is the principal investigator and experimental lead of RAPTER (Rapid Assessment of Platform Technologies to Expedite Response), a Defense Threat Reduction Agency–funded consortium spanning 19 government, academic, and industry institutions. RAPTER integrates artificial intelligence, standardized experimental studies, and mechanistic modeling to guide vaccine development and platform selection across pathogens with varying levels of available evidence. Her work connects multidisciplinary research with practical decisions about which vaccine approaches to advance, with the goal of accelerating medical countermeasure development and strengthening preparedness for emerging biological threats.
