Javier Castillo‑Olivares is a Senior Scientist in CEPI’s Laboratory Research and Innovations Department, contributing to global vaccine research and development through laboratory innovation, pre‑clinical evaluation, and cross‑functional scientific collaboration.

His work focuses on understanding mucosal immune responses to viral infections and vaccination, development of Vaccine Libraries and broadly protective coronavirus vaccines, as well as the study of emerging viral pathogens such as Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome and Oropouche viruses. He also plays a role in CEPI’s outbreak response activities, supporting rapid scientific assessment and data‑driven decision‑making during epidemic threats. Javier provides scientific input across CEPI’s vaccine portfolio, contributing analytical evaluation, internal scientific guidance, and support for collaborative interactions with global research partners. These areas of work build on his broader experience in immunology, virology, serological analysis, and assay development.

He also contributes to the scientific community through editorial and peer‑review‑related activities, including collaboration with scientific publishers.

Based at CEPI UK, he participates in recurring internal research discussions, governance activities, and cross‑departmental coordination that support CEPI’s mission to accelerate vaccine development and enhance global preparedness for epidemic and pandemic threats
