Jeffrey Almond is currently a Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford, Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, and Dep[artment of Microbiology at the University of Reading. His most recent position was Vice President of Research and External R&D at Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccine division of the Sanofi group. In this role he was responsible for the early stage R&D pipeline and for establishing and managing R&D partnerships with Academia and Biotech companies relevant to the commercial interests of Sanofi Pasteur.
Prior to joining Sanofi Pasteur, Jeffrey Almond spent most of his career in the UK. He was lecturer at the University of Leicester from 1979-85 and Professor of Microbiology and Head of the School of Animal and Microbial Sciences at the University of Reading 1985-99. He has served on numerous national and international committees and has held senior officer positions in several learned societies including the Society for General Microbiology and the International Union Microbiological Societies. Almond is a Fellow of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences and a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology. He is currently a member of MRC Council in the UK. He was awarded the Ivanovsky Medal “100 Years of Virology” for “Contributions to the Development Virology” by The Scientific Council of Virology of Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. He has published extensively, especially in the fields of Virology and Vaccinology.
