The South African Civil Aviation Authority, established in 1998, is an agency of the Department of Transport. In terms of the Civil Aviation Act of 2009, the Authority is mandated to regulate and promote civil aviation safety and security, in line with the Standards and Recommended Practices of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) whilst remaining compliant with the local legislative environment.
