Royston Shieh Teng Wei holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and is currently pursuing a Master of Engineering (M.Eng) in Mechanical Engineering (2025). As an teaching assistant at the Engineering Design and Innovation Centre (EDIC), he co-lectures and coordinates modules in systems engineering, guiding students through real-world, multi-disciplinary projects involving battery technologies, IoT systems, and sustainable energy solutions.
Before his current role, Royston served as an Aircraft Engineer with the Republic of Singapore Air Force, maintaining and troubleshooting F-16 jets. His military background in systems engineering laid the foundation for his later work as a co-founder of start-ups such as Alpha Electrics and Solutions16, where he led the design and development of swappable battery systems and IoT-based utilities monitoring solutions. He is an Incorporated Engineers and a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IEng MIMechE).
Royston oversees the design and deployment of Sodium-Ion battery solutions for industrial applications with EDIC’s industrial partners. He draws from his industry experience to bring practical insights into his teaching, focusing on systems engineering and sustainable product development.
