Day 1 @ 14:30

The value of a no-blame investigator in improving road safety

The role of the Office of Transport Safety Investigations (OTSI) is to improve the safety of bus, ferry and rail passenger and rail freight services in NSW by investigating safety incidents and accidents, identifying system-wide safety issues and sharing lessons with transport operators, regulators and other stakeholders. Since it was established in 2004, OTSI has completed more than 200 investigations producing recommendations which have contributed to a wide range of safety improvements implemented by government and industry stakeholders. In this presentation, OTSI Chief Investigator and CEO Dr Natalie Pelham will outline OTSI’s role, some of the key changes that have resulted from its past safety investigations, select current investigations, and the transformation program underway which will increase the agency’s focus on evidence-based proactive initiatives and maximise the value it delivers for the transport sector.
