Dr Charles Karl is the National Discipline Leader, Transport Systems, at ARRB. He has over 30 years’ experience in intelligent transportation systems. Charles has been the ARRB Technical Lead for several connected and automated vehicle trials, beginning with the first Australian demonstration of the Volvo XC90 in Adelaide in 2015. The safety evaluation frameworks he developed from those trials are currently being utilised for autonomous vehicles in defense and agricultural off-road deployments. Charles chairs the Scientific Reference Group of ADVI, the Australian and New Zealand Driverless Vehicle Initiative.
