Tshepo Tshivhasa, Head of Grid Engineering, EDF Renewables

Tshepo is a Professional Engineer who holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Johannesburg. In his 10 years of experience, Tshepo has been directly involved in the integration of more than 1GW of Renewable Power Plants into the South African grid, both Solar PV and Wind. He has worked for Eskom Grid Planning, Enel Green Power, Juwi Renewables, and EDF Renewables. His roles in these organisations have all been centred around grid topics. As the Head of Grid Engineering at EDF Renewables, he manages and leads the Grid Engineering team that is responsible for all grid related issues for projects during the Development, Execution and Commercial Operation phases. The Grid Engineering team is responsible for activities such as Grid Code Compliance, Substation development and construction, liaising with Utilities (Eskom, Municipalities) with matters related to the interconnection, monitoring project implementation progress, and providing support on the resolution of all grid related issues. He is also responsible for the development of a process road map for the execution of the Grid interconnection portion of the RPPs (In South Africa and the sub-Saharan region), including providing required deliverables, expected timeframes, and expected roles and responsibilities of stakeholders. Tshepo is also the Deputy Chairman of the SAWEA Technical Working Group and has been intensely involved in Grid related discussion with the various stakeholders and entities via the SAPVIA/SAWEA Task Force and NEOCOM.
