Madoda Koti, Mining, Climate Change and Environmental Consultant, Gwina Attorneys Incorporated

Madoda Koti has been practicing law for well over 15 years as a duly admitted attorney. Even though his focus area is Environmental and Mining Law, his experience and knowledge also extends over Commercial, and Climate Change Law. He was appointed as a Mining and Environmental Law Senior Associate at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr and as a Senior Associate at Gwina Attorneys where he provided services to Anglo American and Sasol. Madoda has also worked alongside the late Professor Tobias Van Reenen for research pertaining to the Water Law Project. Furthermore, he has undertaken the following over his years of practicing law:

  • Prepared comments on drafted legislation and policy
  • Prepared legal registers
  • Advised on legal considerations pertaining to a mine closure transaction
  • Advised on environmental litigation
  • Advised on environmental due diligence matter
His career further sprouted to him being appointed to lead the advisory team on effect of the Shell Royal Dutch judgement on a Fossil Fuel Company. This also includes his involvement in the team that undertook a due diligence investigation on behalf of international engineering company on the potential acquisition of shares in NewCo to be established by Transnet. Further to all, Madoda Koti has also contributed to the field of law by presenting guest lectures at the University of the Witwatersrand. Other engagements: Madoda has extended his knowledge by engaging with people of the media from the following platforms: ENCA, Newsroom Afrika, and Radio 702 on topics concerning economic and environmental matters such as managing landfills by municipalities.
