Etienne, a Principal Consultant at TNEI Africa since 2017, is based in Cape Town, South Africa, and boasts over 15 years of extensive experience in the energy sector. His diverse expertise spans conventional generation plants, renewable generation projects, hybrid plants as well as transmission and distribution-related projects. In his previous roles, Etienne worked for Eskom in the engineering department responsible for all green field and brown field coal-fired power station projects. His responsibilities included the conceptual designs, inputs to business cases, development of specifications, scope of work documents, tender package, tender evaluations, contractor engagements, project schedules, and site inspections / construction monitoring. Subsequently, he joined a prominent multinational multidisciplinary consulting firm, Aecom, where he was exposed to collector network and substation primary plant designs. Etienne's expertise extends to conducting grid connection studies across a wide spectrum of networks, ranging from transmission networks to small island distribution networks. Furthermore, he has conducted numerous grid code compliance assessments and grid code testing for wind farms and solar plants in South Africa. He conducted the grid code compliance studies and grid code testing for the Eskom Hex BESS which was the first Eskom BESS to reach commercial operation in 2023. He is also actively involved in several behind-the-meter utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) plants. Etienne is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa. He has worked on projects in South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, the UK, and Pakistan.
