Yolanda has actively worked in the resource efficiency industry for over 24 years. With a diploma in Journalism, she was editor of Electricity+Control magazine for 13 years, publishing three journals on Energy Efficiency Made Simple. Yolanda has 15 years’ experience in capacity building in the energy industry, spanning management, qualification and curriculum development, training material development, skills programme design and implementation, certification administration, research, and advocacy related to skills development in Sub-Saharan Africa. She is the Founding and Executive Director of the Institute of Energy Professionals Africa (IEPA NPC), a Non-Profit Company, focused on professional development and sustainable growth in the energy sector. In this role, Yolanda has spearheaded the establishment of international training standards in the region, contributing to professionalising energy efficiency and renewable energy careers. Her leadership extends globally as she served as the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Regional Vice President for Sub-Saharan Africa and sits on both the AEE Global Certification and Global Energy Transition Committees. Yolanda is a recipient of multiple national and international awards, including the AEE International Energy Innovator of the Year (2018), SAEEC Energy Educator of the Year (2021), and induction into the Energy Efficiency Hall of Fame (2022). In 2023, she received the SANEDI Women in Energy Award, recognising her dedication to advancing women in the energy profession. Most recently, IEPA under her leadership received the Best Community Impact – Capacity Building Award at the AEE World Energy Awards, as part of the inaugural International Training Partner Recognition Awards 2025. Through her work, she continues to champion skills development, knowledge sharing, and empowerment across Africa’s energy landscape, shaping the next generation of leaders in sustainability and efficiency.
