ENERGY STORAGE TECHNOLOGIES – A POTENTIAL GAME-CHANGER FOR WIDESPREAD ADOPTION OF RENEWABLE ENERGY GENERATION THROUGHOUT AFRICA

As new storage technologies come online, it’s opened the door to low cost utility scale and distributed generation opportunities across the continent.

Policy-makers are now looking at changing outdated regulation to support reform and infrastructure improvements to boost widespread efficient generation capacity and storage alongside larger centralised plants.

These projects present an opportunity for easier finance given lower capital costs, shorter construction periods and fewer risks and complications. 

The sector is still in its infancy, but is set to boom exponentially as Africa’s need to sustainable, affordable energy continues to climb.
