WORKSHOP: Human Body Unwrapped (Science through Play)

NEW DATES TBC | 09:15 - 10:15

Workshop Summary :

Join us for a Science centre’s experience, where we discover science through simple everyday material. Learn, hear and feel how vibration travels through a tube creating a standing wave, and how the pitch/frequency of sound is varied. Discover the secrets of a ‘perfect’ chemical reaction, a stoichiometric reaction of methane and oxygen, in the presence of a spark. An explosion! Conversion of chemical to potential energy. Lastly, in today’s workshop, we are going to poke a hole in card measuring 9x5cm, large enough to pull over your head. The solution has its roots more than 100 years ago when Mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot pondered the coastline of England and how the very DNA of our body is wrapped and wounded up into a small package of chromosome. Are you up to the challenge?

WORKSHOP: Paper Aeroplane (Science through Play)

NEW DATES TBC  | 11:30 - 12:30

Workshop Summary :

Discover the secrets of a ‘perfect’ chemical reaction, a stoichiometric reaction of methane and oxygen, in the presence of a spark. An explosion! Conversion of chemical into kinetic energy. Lastly, in today’s workshop we are going to test the limits of flight building a paper aeroplane. Tweak its wings to change its dihedral angle altering its angle of attack, curl one wing to cause it to bank either left or right. You will never see paper aeroplanes the same way again!

Spinning Dart (Science through Play)

NEW DATES TBC  | 13:00 - 14:00

Workshop Summary :

Discover the secrets of a ‘perfect’ chemical reaction, a stoichiometric reaction of methane and oxygen, in the presence of a spark. An explosion! Conversion of chemical to potential energy. Lastly, in today’s activity, we learn to make a ‘toy’. A dart that is launched using elastic potential energy, and as it falls from height spins. Experiment with modifying the body, mass, and ‘wings’ of your dart. Can you make the ultimate spinner?
