Natalie Banner, Policy Adviser, Wellcome Trust

Dr. Natalie Banner is a Policy Adviser at the Wellcome Trust and 'Understanding Patient Data' - an initiative to support better conversations about the use of patient health information. Her policy work focuses primarily on helping to maximise the use and value of data collected in research and clinical contexts whilst ensuring that the systems of governance in place are trustworthy, ethically sound and acceptable to patients, clinicians and the public. She leads Wellcome's Parliamentary advocacy on data protection and the impact of the General Data Protection Regulation on research using personal data. For ‘Understanding Patient Data’ she also leads a stream of work exploring the implications of new and emerging data-driven technologies for healthcare and research.
