Francesco Berti, Head Of Antigen Design, Preclinical Research And Development, GlaxoSmithKline

Dr. Berti earned his bachelor in Chemistry (1998) and PhD in Chemical Science (2002) degrees at the University of Siena (Italy). In 2002 he joined GSK Vaccines (formerly Novartis Vaccines; formerly Chiron Vaccines) as a scientist and in the following 10 years he was appointed Project Leader, Laboratory/Unit/Department Head.

In April 2018 he has been appointed Scientific Director - Technical R&D, which is his current position. Dr. Berti has also served as a visiting scientist at the National Research Council (Ottawa, Canada) in 2008 and at the Genomic Institute of Novartis Foundation (La Jolla, CA, US) in 2010.

In the last 18 years, he has been working on R&D of carbohydrate- and protein-based antigens against bacterial (N. meningitidis ABCW135YX, group A and B Streptococcus, S. aureus, etc.) and viral infections (HIV, etc.). Dr. Berti has authored and co-authored of approximately 85 published scientific papers/reviews and more than 20 patents.
