J.P. Li brings more than a decade of domestic and international experience across higher education, banking, healthcare, and venture capital (VC) and private equity (PE). He began his entrepreneurial career by acquiring and scaling a Texas-based business with divisions in building materials distribution and real estate development, growing the company from 8 to more than 40 employees and achieving approximately 350% revenue growth within 2 years. As a VC-backed founder, he successfully exited the business through an acquisition. He subsequently founded Meridian Universal Health Group Inc., where, as Founder & CEO, he led a hospital infrastructure division and a corporate venture capital arm that raised more than $105 million to commercialize healthcare and biotech innovations from U.S. universities and academic medical centers. Currently, he serves as a Statewide Specialty Counselor at the NJ Small Business Development Center State Office and as a Board Director of Wharton Alumni Angels. Alongside his executive career, J.P. has contributed actively to research, education, and industry thought leadership. He serves as a Founding Mentor of C10 Labs — an MIT Media Lab spinoff — through its NYC AI Nexus initiative, a Board Member of the Entrepreneurship Advisory Council at Rowan University, and a Certified Mentor at SCORE, a U.S. Small Business Administration resource partner. He has held appointments as a Research Fellow at the Mack Institute for Innovation Management at the Wharton School, a Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, a Guest Lecturer at Pratt Institute, and a Professor (Honorarium) at Rowan University. His industry engagement includes serving as a judge for the Philadelphia Regional Tech Startup World Cup Pitch Competition, hosted by the City of Philadelphia Department of Commerce, and for the CFA Institute Research Challenge; as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Financial Planning, the Academy of Management, and ISPOR; and as a speaker and session chair at academic and industry conferences, including BioTechX and the AI Summit of New York. His peer-reviewed scholarship includes "Paradigm Shifts in International Law: IP Protection and U.S.-China Cross-Border Cancer Care", presented at the American Society of International Law Midyear Meeting Research Forum. He also contributed to the International Finance Corporation (IFC, World Bank Group) Global Private Capital Investors Survey, drawing on insights from 1,452 investors across 108 countries, representing approximately $2 trillion in assets under management. J.P. holds a BBA in Finance, summa cum laude, from the University of Houston, and a Master in Law from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School (the Matt Parker Award recipient for ranking first in the class). At Penn, he also served as a Guest Lecturer for the upper-level law course "Comparative Health Law Systems" and as an Investment Associate at the Penn Medicine–Wharton Fund for Health, a $5 million investment vehicle addressing the social determinants of health. He is currently a DBA candidate in Finance at Rutgers Business School. Selected among the top 8% of more than 3,500 emerging managers worldwide in the VC Lab accelerator program to launch an ethical venture capital firm, he graduated from Cohort 16 in the top 2%, and is an alum of the Venture Cooperative program and the inaugural business fellow cohort at Perplexity AI. He is an active member of the Angel Capital Association, the CFA Society of New York, and the American Society of International Law. Beyond his professional work, he has held board and leadership roles with several nonprofit organizations in the United States and abroad, earning recognition at the municipal, congressional, and international levels.
