Francis Jim Tuscano is an internationally recognized and awarded Filipino teacher whose projects and innovations focus on empowering learners to drive their own learnings and become agents of change through meaningful technology integration, inclusion of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the classroom, use of problem and project-based learning, and design-thinking. As an education technology coach and consultant, Jim is passionate about designing transformative learning experiences in the classroom that enable learners to become active, reflective, and collaborative creators of knowledge. A sought-after speaker and trainer, he has shared his experiences and expertise to teachers and school leaders in various conferences and workshops held in the Philippines, Australia, Taiwan, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, and Qatar among others. Jim also founded Kids Can Innovation Camp, a school-based learning program that integrated project-based learning, design thinking, STEAM, and the UN SDGs. This innovation approach involved engaging & providing K-12 learners the opportunity to become critical thinkers, creative problem-solvers, & active agents of change. The program has been adopted in different schools and organizations in the Philippines. In 2018, the Global Innovation Camp, an international offshoot of Kids Can, involved more than 90 schools from more than 20 schools that simultaneously worked on SDG awareness and problem-solving. Currently, Kids Can has been translated into 11 international languages including Chinese Mandarin, Hindi, Polish, and Spanish. In 2018, Kids Can was recognized as one of the 10 inspiring K12 education innovation by the HundrED, a non-profit organization in Finland. Jim was recently included in the 30 under 30 global list of literacy leaders and change makers of the International Literacy Association. In 2017, he was recognized as one of the 50 best teachers of the world and finalist to the Global Teacher Prize, the first Filipino teacher to represent the Philippines. Jim was also cited as the Best K-12 Teacher at the Edtech Advocate Awards in the United States. In2016, he was recognized as the Outstanding Junior Faculty in Xavier School – San Juan. He is an Apple Professional Learning Specialist and currently sits as member of the Asia Pacific Board of the Apple Distinguished Educators (ADE). He is currently the chairperson for the Grade School Religious and Values Education department and the Head Education Technology Coach of Xavier School.
