Ma. Lourdes S. Nery-Cura has been in the teaching profession for the past 17 years. She was a full-time Instructor in UP-Asian Institute of Tourism from 1997-2003 and a part-time History teacher in her alma mater- St. Scholastica’s College since 1998. She joined her alma mater as a full-time teacher in 2003, was the Social Studies Coordinator in 2008, and is currently the Assistant Principal of the High School Unit.
Having been influenced by the Benedictines in basic education, her desire to be an agent of social transformation is concretized in her advocacy in training public school teachers in the areas of curriculum design, implementation and monitoring through her membership in Guro Foundation Forum, a professional group of UP alumni focusing on teacher training. She has trained public school teachers, principals and supervisors on lesson study, standards-based instructional planning and peer walk-through in the National Capital Region and Region 2. She is also lead trainer of Knowledge Channel, teaching fellow educators on the use of constructivism as its model of teaching through its Learning Effectively through Evidence-Based Pedagogy (LEEP) Program.
She graduated cum laude from the University of the Philippines-Diliman with a degree in BS Tourism. She completed her graduate studies in the University of Western Sydney in tourism management and educational administration in UP-Diliman. She is now a candidate for the degree of Doctor of Education major in curriculum and instruction.
She has written classroom–based researches in the areas of curriculum evaluation (Electives Program), digital technology in instruction, teaching perspectives and teaching practices. She has written modules on peace education and Philippine History to be used by High School students and voter’s education for the computerization of the elections for the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.
In 2015, she joined Everest Academy Manila as the Principal. She has introduced innovations in curriculum and instruction, program evaluation and peer mentoring.
