Mr Manish Uppal, Director of Training and Standards, AirAsia India

Manish Uppal started his Aviation Journey with India's first LCC Air Deccan as a co-Pilot. 

Manish has 13 years of aviation experience as a pilot and now DGCA approved TRE and Director of Training and Standards. He has a frugal and flexible mindset is the key to success in Indian aviation scenario.

AirAsia India recognises, nurtures and reward people with talent. Creativity, personality and most of all attitude plays a key role in building efficient work force. Manish’s key responsibility is to build a training facility which ensures learning and development of all airline employees while meeting regulatory requirements and ensuring crew numbers are projected and delivered in time to meet expansion plans. Every employee has something special in them and those capabilities should be identified and nurtured for their progression in the organization.

When working with IndiGo as a Fleet Captain, Manish studied the human aspect very closely and was responsible for creating simple user interface training and learning systems for pilots, including the CRM training modules. He attended courses like the Human Factors and CRM course with JAA Training Organisation, Netherlands, Leadership Development course with Center of Leadership Development and Train the Trainer course with Elevate Learning Solutions.

In his last role as Chief Pilot Training and Standards at AirAsia India, Manish played key role in setting up flight operations training systems, training content and processes from scratch for pilot training. He worked closely with external vendors in India and abroad to ensure quality training at approved training centers. Additionally, he represented AirAsia India to liaison with regulator to comply with requirements and successfully obtained AOP for AirAsia India in May 14.
