Mr. Henk Waling | Managing Director AMSYS (Netherlands) | The Netherlands
After a 16 years career in Food- and Dairy Industry, Henk Waling joined the Public Transport Industry in 1991. Until 1998 he was Technical Director of the Buscompany NZH (nowadays part of Connexxion) and a.o. responsible for the restructuring of the technical function in relation to the privatization of the Public Transport in the Netherlands. From 1998 until 2004 he was member of the Board of Directors of GVB, the Municipal Public Transport company of Amsterdam (Bus, tram, metro, ferries). In this role he was again involved in intensive restructuring processes. He was responsible for the technical department and huge investments in rolling stock and infrastructure. In this period a lot of new projects started, like the new tram for Amsterdam, the fuel cell bus, e-ticketing, and renovation of the Metro infrastructure.
In 2004 Henk Waling became a consultant and involved in many projects for companies and authorities in the Mobility sector. Amongst others he was responsible for the set up of operations on RandstadRail. Since 2007 he is Project director of AMSYS, responsible for the renewal of the Metro system in Amsterdam combined with the integration of the new North South line, and also involved in regional Light Rail projects. Henk Waling is active in national and international working groups and is honorary chairman of the UITP Bus committee.
