Dr. Martin Akerman is the Co-founder and CTO of Envisagenics, the latest bioinformatics spin-out of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. As a computational biologist post doctorate fellow at CSHL he developed the algorithms and databases that compose the SpliceCoreTM platform in the laboratory of Prof. Adrian Krainer (CSHL), in collaboration with Prof. Michael Zhang (UT Dallas). He is an experienced quantitative biologist focused on RNA with many publications including 8 first-author papers in prestigious peer reviewed journals and extensive record of academic and industrial collaborations worldwide. He received a bachelor’s degree in Biology, a Masters in Molecular and Cell Biology at Technion, Israel Institute of Technology. In 2009 he received his PhD in Bioinformatics also from Technion with several awards including the Katzir Travel Fellowship, Gutwirth Prize and the Jacobs Fellowship. He collaborated with 5 different laboratories in US, Israel and Denmark resulting in 11 collaborative publications. His recent research has been developing a RNA-seq SaaS platform for RNA Therapeutics researchers focused on discovery of Alternative Splicing events causative of Cancer and other genetic disorders like Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
