Mr Phil Hewitt, Chief Executive Officer, Tramlink Nottingham Ltd

Phil Hewitt has worked in the light rail sector since joining London Transport’s Tramlink team in 1997.  A Civil Engineer by training, Phil joined London Underground in 1988 working on the Docklands Light Railway extension to Bank and as both a design and construction Engineer on the Hillingdon Station reconstruction project.  Phil spent 15 years working on the Croydon Tramlink PFI project progressing from Engineering Manager to Director of London Tramlink having successfully lead the team which brought Tramlink into public ownership and subsequently bringing infrastructure maintenance in-house.  In 2005 Phil was instrumental in setting up UKTram as the body providing  a single voice for the emerging tramway sector in its dealings with regulators and government.  Phil chaired UKTram from its incorporation until 2011 and remains actively involved in promotion of standardisation and harmonised safety arrangements for the industry.   In 2012 Phil became Chief Executive of Tramlink Nottingham Ltd, the consortium appointed to design, build and operate the extensions to Nottingham Express Transit under a 22.5 year PFI contract which to date has successfully seen on tram conductors replaced with off tram smart ticketing system and new trams approved for passenger service under the ROGS regulations.
