Mr. Desmond Kuek is the President and Group CEO of SMRT Corporation Limited.
SMRT is Singapore’s premier multi-modal transport provider. The company operates the largest rail network in Singapore. It also runs the 2nd largest bus fleet and the 3rd largest taxi fleet. In addition to transportation, the company provides convenient services via its integrated retail outlets and has recently expanded out of its network to operate the retail space in the recently inaugurated Singapore Sports Hub, which is a major sports, lifestyle and entertainment destination in Singapore.

Prior to joining SMRT, Mr. Kuek served with distinction in both the military and civil service. He joined the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) in 1981 and rose through the ranks to reach the pinnacle appointments as Chief of Army and Chief of Defence Force. In 2010, he retired from military service and was appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources.

Mr. Kuek currently sits on the Civil Service College Board and chairs its Audit Committee, and is a member of the International Advisory Panel for the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities in the Singapore University of Technology and Design. He is also a member of the College Advisory Committee at Nanyang Technological University.
Mr. Kuek holds a Master of Arts (Engineering Science) from Oxford University and a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University; and is an alumnus of Anglo-Chinese School Singapore and the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) Switzerland.
