Rapelang has a strong background in chemistry and catalysis. This is incorporated in his knowledge of nanotechnology and fabrication of polymeric membranes for water purification. His main focus is on multifunctional membranes. The aim is to include the nanomaterials in these membranes to enhance both their performance as well as mitigation of fouling to a certain degree. He is very passionate about the water and its sustainability and how relevant technology can help to alleviate prevalent water-related problems in Southern Africa and Africa as a whole. He has been able to participate in prestigious gatherings like South African Nanotechnology initiative (SANi), Catalysis Society of South Africa (CATSA), African Membrane Society International Congress (AMSIC), Nanotechnology Occupational Environment and Health international symposium (NanOEH) among others.
